Job Description – Sr. Energy Engineer (OsEM)

*Please note that a candidate for this position must have experience in energy engineering, project management, and/or building services.

Position Background. The Sr. Energy Engineer or On-site Energy Manager will work autonomously to lead and manage long-term Energy Management engagements for one or more buildings simultaneously. They will meet with building staff, investigate building systems, identify project opportunities, complete conceptual designs with vendors, present the projects for approval, manage implementation, perform M&V, and report on savings. 


Job Responsibilities:

  1. Investigate and analyze existing building equipment and systems to identify opportunities for improvement.
  2. Investigate various energy efficient technologies and their application to site conditions.
  3. Complete detailed engineering calculations of energy savings and carbon emissions (Local Law 97) savings and define financial benefits.
  4. Present concepts and detailed solutions to building owners.
  5. Lead and manage design of multiple projects simultaneously. 
  6. Manage bid processes and coordination with vendors/subcontractors. 
  7. Manage project tracking in various databases and systems, report on status periodically to owner and NYSERDA.
  8. Compile, submit, and track utility incentive application packages. 
  9. Write detailed, quarterly reports and case studies.

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience in Energy (Mechanical and/or Electrical) Engineering and Project Management.
  • Knowledge of large commercial and residential building systems, controls systems, and commissioning processes. 
  • Knowledge of NYC Local Laws, energy codes, and utility incentive programs.
  • Proven experience working with vendors/contractors and managing contractors.
  • Knowledge of energy, building, and construction codes.


Skills Requirements:

  • Must have excellent communication skills and a positive attitude. 
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and produce consistent high-quality work.
  • Capable of tracking several projects of varying complexity, in various stages of completion.
  • College degree and demonstrated experience completing Energy Engineering projects.
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Excel, energy modeling software, project management software.
